Why Do Streaming Platforms Cancel Great Shows Instead of Letting Someone Else Save Them?

0 support0 reactions0 replies
Every time Netflix cancels a show with a loyal fanbase, I end up wondering the same thing: if they don't want it anymore, why not sell the rights? Take Inside Job as an example. People are still discovering it, fans are still talking about it, and there's clearly demand—even if Netflix doesn't think it's worth funding another season. So why not let another studio or streaming service take over? They could even negotiate to keep the existing seasons on Netflix while collecting royalties from future ones. If the revival fails, Netflix still gets paid. If it succeeds, they earn money without taking on any risk. From the outside, it feels like locking a toy in a closet just because you don't want anyone else playing with it. Is there a business reason I'm missing, or are companies really willing to let valuable stories disappear just to keep them out of someone else's hands?
