I Still Type Your Name Sometimes, Even Though I Never Press Send

There are conversations I’ve accepted will never happen. Not because I don’t know what to say. The problem is I know exactly what I want to say. Some nights I still open our old chat, type out a message, read it twice, and then delete it. Not because I’m hoping you’ll come back. Not because I think it’ll change anything. It’s just strange how some people leave your life, but never completely leave your thoughts. The conversation ends, yet your mind keeps finding new things it wishes it had said. The truth is, the unsent texts aren’t always about love. Sometimes they’re apologies that arrived too late. Sometimes they’re thank-yous we never got the chance to send. Sometimes they’re angry messages we’ve rewritten a hundred times. And sometimes they’re just simple things like, “You crossed my mind today.” The kind of message that means nothing and everything at the same time. I’ve realized that some people don’t stay in our lives. They stay in our drafts. Living quietly between what happened and what we wish had happened. And maybe that’s why letting go is so hard. Not because we miss the person. Because we miss the conversation we’ll never get to have.

A short reply is enough. People usually need to feel understood before they need advice.
